Newsight Imaging and LeiShen Intelligent Partner to Deliver Pulsed-based 3D Automotive LiDAR
The new V–LiDAR, which will reach the market in the first half of 2018, is specifically designed to meet the strict demands of automotive makers, including range, real solid-state, accuracy, power and price.
Ness Ziona, Israel – Newsight Imaging, a leading developer of advanced CMOS image sensors for laser LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) and spectral analysis, today announced a partnership with LeiShen Intelligent, a global provider of high-performance laser LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) systems to deliver V-LiDAR, a game-changing 3D pulsed-based LiDAR for automotive applications used in ADAS (advanced driver assistance systems) and in autonomous vehicles.
The new V-LiDAR is based on Newsight’s patent-pending eTOF (Enhanced Time-of-Flight) technology, which bridges the gap between short-distance iTOF and the 200-meter distance automotive requirement. It does so by extending the dynamic range while retaining high accuracy.
The new V-LiDAR, which will be offered at a very competitive low cost for high-volume orders, was jointly designed in close collaboration with LeiShen, tier-1 and automotive OEMs (original equipment manufacturers). The product features solid-state (no moving parts and no MEMS), high resolution (VGA and above) and range accuracy specially tailored to meet the strict requirements of the automotive industry. It also holds ISO certifications.
Newsight and LeiShen have a track record of successful collaboration in the robotics market. LeiShen built a rotating head LiDAR based on the Newsight NSI3000 line sensor.
“LeiShen Intelligent has long-valued core technologies and is committed to delivering advanced LiDAR systems. The V-LiDAR performs well on distance, speed and reliability measures. It will be a revolutionary product with excellent performance and low costs. The program will constitute a good example of cooperation between Chinese and Israeli companies,” said Bernie Hu, LeiShen’s CEO.
“The Newsight-LeiShen partnership creates a very strong brand positioning in the automotive market,” added Eli Assoolin, CEO of Newsight Imaging. “Newsight’s proven capability of creating very advanced and sensitive integrated CMOS Sensors, together with LeiShen’s exceptional knowledge and experience in LiDAR design, will surely make this product highly attractive for a growing number of automotive makers, offering ‘best in class’ implementation of their requirements such as range, real solid-state, accuracy, power and price.”
The partnering companies offer a special collaboration program for first adopters, OEM or first-tier collaborators. The new partners will gain access to the product’s R&D to define, review and contribute to its final definition, which will include influencing the LiDAR’s internals such as CMOS image sensor, optics, board, software algorithms and interfaces. They will also receive extensive R&D support for their final system design.
The program is also offered to companies developing advanced state-of-the-art support solutions such as algorithms and image processing.
